First Cambodia Travel Mart Relocates to Phnom Penh

The first Cambodian international travel mart, the CTM (Cambodia Travel Mart) which will take place next August from 19 to 21 is moving to a new location. Originally organised in Siem Reap, the brand new event in the travel industry will finally be organised in Cambodia’s capital city, Phnom Penh.

“We took the decision two weeks ago after carefully evaluating the situation in Siem Reap. We realised that parts of the exhibition hall in Siem Reap have been turned into a museum and it is not available for a proper exhibition. We need more space to welcome sellers”, explained So Visothy, Under Secretary of State at Cambodia Ministry of Tourism during ITB Berlin.

Another reason is also due to the fact that all official institutions are in the capital city and not in Siem Reap. And finally that Phnom Penh has many new venues and it would be the right opportunity to promote them to the trade.

“We will have the exhibition hosted at the new Diamond Island Convention and Exhibition Centre which offers the best facilities for a convention in the country. It will also help us to showcase how much Phnom Penh changed over the last five years. And we can always arrange post-tours to Siem Reap afterwards”, says So Visothy.

They are ideas by the Ministry also to strengthen Phnom Penh image by showing the incredible dynamism of the city in arts, culture and design which makes the Cambodian capital a hip destination in Southeast Asia.
