Hotel Technology is No Longer the IT Manager’s Responsibility

When we’re talking to a hotel about their technology requirements and the various solutions we offer, there’s one sentence that is guaranteed to dampen our spirits – “You’ll need to discuss this with our IT department.” Admittedly it’s a less common bump in the road than it used to be but it’s still a surefire indication that the hotel doesn’t yet get the benefits of technology.

Even before cloud computing made implementing even the most complex tech solutions extremely easy, assessing and choosing hotel technology should not have been within the IT dept’s remit, or budget. They might have been responsible for implementing it and maintaining it, but they weren’t the ones making a business case for it or using it day in day out.

And these days of course, most hotel solutions – the most common being PMS, web booking engine, revenue management, reputation management and so on – are cloud-based, and thus require virtually no involvement on the part of the property’s IT staff, for which we can all be thankful.

When we talk to a hotel about a particular solution, we want to be talking to the person whose team is going to be using it. Want a new web booking engine? Let’s discuss with your reservations and digital marketing people. Need a revenue management solution? Let’s talk to your rooms division manager. Looking for reputation management technology? Let’s meet your DOSM.

Along with our solution partners, we’ll handle the implementation, training and maintenance. All your IT department needs to do is make sure your computers don’t break down!
